Frequently Asked Questions about ThreeDify Grapher
I have a registered 2.8.1 version. I want to enable RealTimeUpdate property, but I could not find it in the Graph Property window. What gives? You need to follow the instructions (i.e, the "del" command) at the bottom of the Grapher download page to clear Grapher's old settings held by Excel. After that the RealTimeUpdate property should show up in the Graph Property window and you can then set the property to true
I have a registered v2.7.9 Excel Grapher, I could not find the Wireframe Overlay mode. Wireframe Overlay mode is available only in v2.8.1 or newer.
When I install Excel Grapher, I got an error dialog: "An error occured while trying to replace the existing file: DeleteFile failed, code 5. Access is denied". What is wrong? That is because your Excel is running. Please exit Excel before installing ThreeDify Grapher. Note that in some cases, even if your Excel is closed, your Excel process is still running (mostly due to an Excel crash). So to be 100% sure, you should use Windows Task Manager to make sure Excel process is not running before installing ThreeDify Grapher.
I succesfully installed ThreeDify Excel Grapher, but it does not show up in Excel as an Addin. What is wrong? ThreeDify Grapher is an Excel addin. To use any Excel addin, you must have admin rights. This means in most cases, you should login to Windows with an account that has admin rights or you can individually grant Excel admin rights (much more involved).
Can ThreeDify Grapher plot 2D graphs? Versions 1.5.5 provides three predefined 2D views: XY, YZ and ZX views
I found a bug, how can I report it? You can send an message with your bug description to Technical Support. Alternatively, you can also raise it in our ThreeDify Grapher user forum.
Does ThreeDify Grapher has its own file format? If not, how can I save and load it back? ThreeDify Grapher does not have its own file format. When saved, everything is saved as part of the hosting Excel file (.xls). When a .xls file is opened, the embedded ThreeDify Grapher objects, if any, will be reloaded silently. There is not yet another file format to deal with!
Can I import 3D objects from an external file? No. ThreeDify Grapher is designed to plot 3D graphs directly from the data ranges within an Excel sheet. To import 3D objects from an external CAD or gaming file, you can use ThreeDify Office Desinger.
I am using MS Office 2007, when I insert a new ThreeDify Grapher control to the Sample.xls file shipped as part of the distribution, Excel 2007 crashes. The Sample.xls file is meant for Office 2003 or earlier versions. Excel 2007 can only open it in the "so-called" compatibility mode and as a result, inserting a new control in this mode is not supported by Excel 2007. You should first save the Sample.xls file as Sample.xlsx (Excel 2007 format) before inserting a new control to it.
I am using MS Office 2007 and trying to save my work to my Microsoft Live Office Workspace online, Excel 2007 takes forever and I have to kill it. Saving/loading Excel files with embedded ThreeDify Grapher control(s) to/from Microsoft Office Live Workspace is not supported in the current version. We are planning to support it in the upcoming ThreeDify Grapher version.
Excel crashes when trying to open Add/Update Graph Series or Input/Output Dialog from ThreeDify Grapher. Microsoft introduced Data Execution Prevention (DEP) since Windows XP SP2. DEP is usually software-enforced and can be hardware-enforced as well if your hardware supports it. Grapher version 2.2 or older is not compatible with and will crash Excel on machines with hardware-enforced DEP enabled. This problem is now fixed in version 2.2.1.
I have downloaded the new Excel Grapher and when I try to run it in Excel, Excel keeps crashing Due to a bug with the older versions of Excel Grapher the registries of the older version were not getting uninstalled correctly, thus causing the newer versions to crash on start up. You can fix this by doing the following: Steps:
- Close all MS Excel instances. To confirm no Excel instance is actually running, use Windows Program Manager to make sure no Excel process appears in the Process list.
- Uninstall ThreeDify Grapher
- Perform the "del" command as detailed on our Grapher download page: http://www.threedify.com/threedify-downloads/download-threedify-grapher
- Start your Run command window: [Start menu -> Run...].
- In the Run command window, type regedit.
- In here you want to search for both of the following lines [NOTE: Go to your find tool to search. (Edit -> Find)]
- AsdGraph3D 1.0 type library
- AsdGraph3D 1.1 type library
- Delete all of the registry entries with the above lines that are found.
- Reinstall the latest version of ThreeDify Grapher.
