ThreeDify FlowPit (FlowPit) is a 4D pit optimizer based on the industry standard Lerchs Grossmann's 3D pit optimization algorithm (with a different implementation). FlowPit's highly efficient and scalable implementation achieves a superior magnitude speed-up in comparison to competitors. For typical block models, FlowPit takes seconds or minutes to complete a single optimization run as opposed to hours. For large block models, FlowPit takes full advantage of today's multi-core CPUs. For example, on a Core i7 laptop, without super-blocking, 64-bit FlowPit Premium takes about 35 minutes to complete a full 4D optimization run for a block model with 6.5 million blocks.

In order to arrive at a solution in a realistic time frame for large orebody, most existing pit optimizers use super-blocking to drastically reduce block model dimensions. Consequently, this affects solution accuracy due to smoothing effect. With FlowPit, mine planners no longer need to reduce their block model dimensions. This advance in computational speed without sacrificing optimality makes FlowPit an effective tool not just for determining the optimal pit limit, but also for medium and long term planning and sequencing of large open-pit mines where mine planners frequently need quick and reliable answers to "what if?" questions.

Available as VB-callable COM Object:

FlowPit is available either as a standalone application or as a COM object that is callable by Visual Basic applications. For instance, an open pit mine scheduling application written in Visual Basic can ask ThreeDify FlowPit to compute (via its COM interface) the optimum pit for each planned phase in order to arrive at a long or medium range mine plan.
